YouTube Emerges as Most Used App in South Korea for All Age Groups Print Editor Kim Eun-jin The application that Koreans used the most was “YouTube.” The application that Koreans used the most in August, was “YouTube,” according to a recent survey. On September 19, WiseApp, Retail, and Goods announced that a sample survey of domestic smartphone users (both Android and iOS) revealed that YouTube was the most used app by Koreans last month. The total usage time for the month amounted to 117.4 billion minutes, meaning that the entire population watched YouTube for an average of 73 minutes per day. Notably, YouTube was the most used app across all age groups. The age group with the longest YouTube usage was those in their 20s, clocking in at 27.48 billion minutes, followed by those in their 30s with 21.6 billion minutes, 40s with 21.43 billion minutes, 50s with 17.39 billion minutes, teens with 15.63 billion minutes, and those aged 60 and above with 13.84 billion minutes. The second most used app overall was KakaoTalk, with a total usage time of 32.73 billion minutes. KakaoTalk ranked second among users in their 30s to those aged 60 and above. In contrast, Instagram was the second most used app among teens and those in their 20s, with KakaoTalk coming in third. For teens, other frequently used apps included TikTok, Naver Webtoon, Roblox, Naver, Brawl Stars, X (formerly Twitter), and ZEPETO. Among those in their 20s, the apps ranked from third to ninth in usage were X, Naver, Naver Webtoon, TikTok, Naver Map, Netflix, and KakaoPage. For those in their 30s, the most used apps after YouTube and Instagram were Naver, Naver Webtoon, TikTok, X, Roblox, Tmap, and Brawl Stars. In the 40s age group, Naver was the third most used app, followed by Instagram, Tmap, Netflix, Coupang, Danggeun Market, Naver Cafe, and TikTok Lite. For those in their 50s, the ranking was YouTube, KakaoTalk, Naver, Tmap, Coupang, Instagram, Daum, Netflix, Danggeun Market, and TikTok Lite.
