Intelerad acquires Life Image, becomes 'largest medical image exchange network in the world'

Oct 21, 2022

Intelerad has acquired Life Image, paving the way for the enterprise imaging giant to establish the largest medical image exchange network in the world. In a Sept. 15 announcement, Intelerad indicated that the acquisition is yet another important piece of the puzzle that will eventually push the need for disks as a means of image transfer off of the table entirely. “As a company, Intelerad has been unwavering in backing the challenge put forth by the American College of Radiology (ACR), RSNA and SIIM to #ditchthedisk. Today’s transaction reflects one of the most important steps we could imagine in reaching that vision,” said  Mike Lipps, Intelerad CEO . “Bringing together two of the industry’s leading image exchange providers further solidifies Intelerad’s commitment to helping clinicians and patients lead the revolution in imaging from a world of siloed PACS to a future of interoperable image exchange.”    This latest move on Intelerad’s trek to “ditch the disk” is yet another giant leap for the company, following the recent acquisitions of PenRad Technologies earlier this year and Ambra Health in 2021. This most recent transaction between Intelerad and Life Image— the world’s largest medical evidence network—represents a significant advance in interoperability and will combine networks that total over 80 billion images globally, including data from institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and New York Presbyterian Hospital. Morris Panner, President of Intelerad and former CEO of Ambra Health, commended the move, praising the combined efforts of each company that have led to better interoperability and improved patient care. “As independent companies we competed, but also pioneered some of the most important cross-vendor exchanges in the industry,” Panner said. “By combining, we are able to advance our vision and technology more rapidly and achieve our joint vision of a true nation-wide, electronic image exchange network. We are just getting started.”
