Clare RigdenPerthNow Wednesday, streaming on Apple TV plus We’re always looking for something to watch with the whole family — most of the time we revert to episodes of Hard Quiz: Kids, a refreshingly funny, kid-friendly adaptation of the perennial ABC favourite. But this new series, from Kiwi royalty Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, looks set to become a new favourite. If you think it sounds familiar, that’s because it is: it’s an adaptation of the 1981 movie from Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam. This one sees Lisa Kudrow step up to play the leader of a ragtag bunch of “time bandits”, a crack team of self-proclaimed “expert thieves” criss-crossing time and space . . . with their 11-year-old sidekick, history-loving Kevin (Kal-El Tuck), in tow. They’ve got a map that enables them to travel across time and history, and the series sees them popping up everywhere from the Stone Age and Ice Age to Ancient Troy, ye olde Britain, and everywhere in between. If you’ve seen the promos, then you’ll know it’s a big-budget, bells and whistles production, sure to appeal to younger viewers as well as their nostalgia-seeking gen X/millennial parents. The best bit? Clement and Waititi pop up — if you’ve seen Jemaine as his crab incarnation in Moana, you’ll already know he has a knack for inhabiting likeable villains. It will be interesting to see what he does with this one, credited simply as “Pure Evil”. Keep an eye out for the local supporting players — this was filmed with a largely Aussie/Kiwi cast, so there are lots of familiar faces. Credit: Geoff Magee/Network Ten This show very much does what it says on the label, in that it’s all about pooches . . . behaving very badly. But that’s entirely its charm, and it’s great to spend some time with master dog trainer Graeme Hall once more as he tackles some adorably problematic pooches. Keep an eye out for an adorably fluffy English sheepdog in ep one who hates taking selfies — such a diva. Another great one to watch with the family. After seven seasons this beloved medical drama is finishing up for good this week, and we’ll finally get our happily-ever-after — or will we? This 10-episode farewell season has been quite the roller-coaster, and it’s not over yet: get the tissues ready because not everyone looks set to get a neat little conclusion. That said, long-term fans will be pleased at how everything plays out. A satisfying end to a worthwhile series. Resurrected Rides
