From blood pressure to vocal clarity, these startups are analyzing digital biomarkers to change how patients are monitored, diagnosed, and treated.
Digital biomarkers — health data collected by implantable, portable, or wearable devices — are changing the healthcare space, from diagnostics to precision medicine to clinical trials.
Startups creating new ways to measure digital biomarkers, enabling clinicians to monitor patients outside of the hospital and improve overall outcomes. Using data like blood pressure, eye movement, glucose, and brain activity, doctors can create unique patient treatment plans.
Digital biomarkers also enable pharmaceutical researchers to obtain data continually and passively for longitudinal studies in clinical and home settings.
For example, Looxid Lab’s solution, consisting of EEG sensors and a VR headset, uses games to screen for cognitive impairment. Based on EEG results and game performance, Looxid Labs gives providers a report of the patient’s cognitive status. Meanwhile, VivoSense offers connected wearables to remotely provide subject data for clinical trials.
