We analyze the 59 generative AI startups in YC’s latest cohort that are disrupting software engineering, sales, data & analytics, and more.
Y Combinator’s Summer 2022 batch had 11 generative AI-focused startups. Just 6 months later, its Winter 2023 (W23) cohort has 59 — 22% of the 272 companies in the cohort.
Garry Tan, Y Combinator’s president and CEO, told Forbes in February that generative AI is “the new frontier — like working on Facebook apps or iOS apps when those platforms were new.” Most of YC’s generative AI bets are bringing the red-hot tech to the enterprise.
Several W23 startups allow companies to leverage generative AI chatbots to support sales (e.g., Lightski) and customer support (e.g., Kyber) teams. Others provide tools for enterprise developers to build their own large language model (LLM) applications (e.g., Stack AI).
Using CB Insights data, we mapped how the generative AI startups in YC’s latest winter batch span categories like engineering, sales, data & analytics, marketing, and more.
We discuss some of the most promising use cases and companies below. For the complete list of 272 W23 startups with industry and category breakdowns — including generative AI — CBI clients can view the Y Combinator Winter 2023 Collection.
