Anthony Conrad

Having founded about.me and Sphere (both acquired by AOL), Tony brings founder and startup leadership expertise to his partner role at True. Early in his career, Tony spent a decade abroad in India, France, and Indonesia with Groupe Danone where he focused on brand extension opportunities through mergers and acquisitions in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Tony grew up in a small Indiana farming community. He’s worked a lot of jobs not listed on his resume, including short stints as a baseball umpire, basketball camp counselor, pharmacy stock person, high school sports reporter, book bindery glue machine operator, janitor, college newspaper ad salesman, and yogurt merchandiser, to name a few. When he’s not seeking out new investment opportunities, you can find him communicating en français, making drip coffee, traveling, or getting lucky with his enviable good parking karma. He holds a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications and a minor in business from Indiana University. He is also a proud board member of the Tony Hawk Foundation.

Philip Black

Phil is an early stage venture capitalist and co-founder of True Ventures. He learned the venture trade and met his future True Ventures co-founder during his time at Summit Partners. He held general partner positions for eight years prior to raising and investing a small angel fund called Blacksmith Capital, which became a seminal moment in his career of managing venture fund investments. Phil believes in risk-taking at the earliest stage and that startup founders benefit most when they are supported fully, both professionally and personally. Phil is a product of Oklahoma and Stanford alumni. He loves art, wine, and travel. His favorite place outside of the San Francisco Bay Area is London.
