Sign Up × It is now coming up to 30 years since Newcastle United entered its famous Entertainers era and there are two clubs that were big favourites of Magpies footballers back in the day, as well as providing great memories for many Geordies who were also hitting the town around the same time. With all the nostalgia surrounding Oasis and their reunion and the fact they played Newcastle Arena on the same night that a certain Tino Asprilla put three past Barcelona in the Champions League, the glorious Entertainers spell of NUFC, which saw them as near Premier Leasgue champions as ST James' Park became a real fortress, has been brought back into the spotlight once again. A whole of Entertainers stars, just like Oasis, are getting back together next year, for their own show at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle, with the likes of Rob Lee, Lee Clark, Peter Beardsley, Steve Watson and Keith Gillespie all set to be on stage at the one off event, with a return visit to their favourite Italian, the still very popular Unos on the Quayside, also in the pipeline. And it wasn't just the restaurants of Newcastle that United stars liked to show their face, in an interview with The Guardian, another former player, Robbie Elliott, singled out two now long gone night clubs in the city that were also regular calling points - Julie's, a nightspot many Geordies would love to come back and Legends, on Grey Street, another place where many North East revellers got their first taste of clubbing. It closed in the early 2000s and Tiger Hornsby now operates there (Image: Mirrorpix) And it was when talking about teammate Tino that Robbie mentioned both clubs, as he explained: "We played Leeds away and Terry McDermott was talking to Frank Worthington, they were having a good conversation. "There were two main nightclubs in Newcastle at the time, Julie’s and Legends. As we walk up to them, Terry Mac looks at Tino and points at Frankie. He says: ‘Legend!’ Tino just says: ‘Me no Legends tonight, me Julie’s!" The building once occupied by Julie's in now Irish bar The Dubliner, while, for the last six years, Legends has been the plush Everyman Cinema.
