Wethouder Luc Volders (onder andere economie, toerisme en verkeer) heeft dinsdag zijn ontslag aangeboden aan de gemeenteraad. In een brief aan de gemeenteraad heeft hij zijn besluit toegelicht. Volders is al enige tijd met ziekteverlof wegens de gevolgen van een hersenbloeding die hem in 2019 trof. Hij laat in een brief weten dat hij niet in de juiste conditie is om de taak van wethouder naar behoren uit te voeren. Behalve de taak als wethouder was Volders tevens liedjesschrijver van zanggroep De Kloomp uit Meerssen Conform de gemeentewet gaat het ontslag in met ingang van 18 september 2020, of zoveel eerder als een eventuele opvolger de benoeming heeft aangenomen.
