“Avatar: The Last Airbender” In Concert Tour At The Stranahan Photo provided via Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert. Immerse yourself into a concert experience like never before. The American Theatre Guild, Nickelodeon, GEA Live and Senbla are bringing the iconic television show’s musical score to the Stranahan Theatre on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 7:30 pm. Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert will take you on a two-hour and 20-minute adventure through the three seasons of the influential television series. The concert experience brings fan-favorite iconic scenes from all three seasons to life through the immersive sounds of the orchestra. Photo taken by Zdenko Hanout. Watch as Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, Zuko and more of your favorite characters embark on an “epic musical journey” on a full-size cinema screen accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra. Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert was composed and arranged by Emmy Award-winning composer and musician, Jeremy Zuckerman. He worked closely with show co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and show editor, Jeff Adams while expanding on the original composition. “We’re all so excited to be bringing Jeremy Zuckerman’s music across the country, in this live form,” Associate Conductor Heidi Joosten said. “Even if you don’t know all that’s going on from the animated series, if you haven’t seen all of the three seasons, you will still understand what’s going on in this particular presentation of this show.” Joosten joins Conductor Emily Marshall for a second time to collaborate on Avatar: the Last Airbender In Concert. The two previously conducted together on the Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse Live In Concert Tour together. Immersive musical experience Similar to Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse, Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert will immerse you into the cinema experience in a way that viewers have never experienced before. Photo taken by Zdenko Hanout. “When I was doing Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse last season, there were so many people who said after that show, something like ‘Well, I don’t want to watch the movie just by itself now. I’d rather watch it with an orchestra being played with it!’ That’s exactly what we’re going for,” Marshall told The Columbusite . The 14-piece orchestra that will accompany the iconic scenes is composed of common orchestral instruments as well as traditional Asian flutes, timpani and big drums, as well as four vocalists that add different sound effects throughout the concert, according to Marshall. “It might not be the biggest orchestra that you’ve ever heard, but you’re going to hear a lot of different sounds you’ve never experienced before,” Marshall said . Creating exposure For many audience members, although they are familiar with the iconic television series, this may be their first time hearing a live orchestra. “The animated series is so iconic. It was so huge with my generation, even though it came out when I was like, middle school/high school, that now that we’re adults and we’re able to see these things that gave us such joy as children with live performers,” Joosten said. “Live Performance has stood the test of time as an art form, there’s something that it truly just unlocks in the soul that reminds us of our shared humanity.” Productions like Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert bring a wider audience to theatre and orchestra concerts, creating more visibility and exposure for these arts. Photo taken by Zdenko Hanout. “Because if people like (Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert), they’re gonna like Brahms, they’re gonna like Beethoven, they’re gonna like Bruckner,” Joosten said. “It’s a very simple way to bridge the gap into what the traditions of the orchestra are. I’m a big fan, but I’m also super biased because I get the best seat in the house for all of it.” Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert kicked off the United States leg of their international tour on Friday, Aug. 16 in Columbus, Georgia. The tour has ten stops before they make their way to the Stranahan stage on Aug. 27. Tickets for the concert start at $54 and can be purchased on Etix.com .
